Lavender White Hot Cocoa : Swiss Miss For Grown Ups

Here at Pumpkin Blossom Farm, we grew up drinking hot chocolate on snow days— cold little fingers wrapped around our favorite mugs after spending the day sledding, building snowmen, and having snowball fights with the kids down the street. An essential for frosty winter mornings and cozy couch moments . But as we’ve grown, so have our tastes, and sometimes we crave something a little more refined, a little more indulgent. Enter Lavender White Hot Chocolate, Swiss Miss’ older, more sophisticated sister. She's (kind of) sweet, comforting, and great at holding family gatherings together. (Did you know lavender has both calming and mood inhancing benefits when ingested? 😉)

This elevated version of hot chocolate trades the familiar sweetness of milk chocolate for creamy white chocolate and adds a gentle note of lavender. It’s still comforting, still cozy, but it feels a bit more special—like it belongs in a pretty mug with a sprinkle of something fancy on top.

Why Lavender White Hot Cocoa?

Lavender White Hot Chocolate keeps everything you loved about childhood hot cocoa—the warmth, the sweetness, the comfort—and gives it a polished, grown-up vibe. It’s the drink equivalent of cozying up in a cashmere blanket: soft, indulgent, and just a little luxurious.

The white chocolate gives it a luscious creaminess, while the lavender adds a subtle fresh and floral note that’s unexpected but oh-so-welcome. It’s sweet and soothing but also feels like a treat you’d find in a chic café. It’s grown-up hot chocolate, perfect for sipping while watching the snow fall—or while bingeing your favorite show.

The Recipe (For Two)

You'll Need

  • Your favorite mugs

  • 4 cups milk

  • 1 cup white chocolate chips

  • 1.5 cups powdered coffee creamer

  • 2 tablespoons dried culinary grade lavender buds

Optional:

  • White chocolate shavings

  • whipped cream

  • Vanilla Extract

Instructions:

  • Start with the Milk: Warm the milk in a saucepan over low heat, careful not to let it boil. Toss in the lavender, giving it a few minutes to infuse. This step is where the magic happens—your kitchen will smell divine.

  • Strain the Lavender: Use a fine mesh strainer to remove the lavender buds. No one likes surprise bits in their drink.

  • Heat the Chocolate: In a double boiler, melt your chocolate chips completely until silky smooth - stir continuously

  • Combine Your Ingredients: Slowly incorporate the milk mixture into the melted chocolate, and then add powdered creamer in small increments - no clumps allowed.

  • Finish with Vanilla: Stir in the vanilla extract—it’s like the cherry on top of this whole concoction.

  • Serve It Up: Pour into your favorite mugs, top with a swirl of whipped cream, and sprinkle on lavender or white chocolate shavings if you’re feeling fancy.

Make It Your Own

  • Spices For Warmth:

Cinnamon Stick: Infuse while heating the milk for stronger flavor, or use as a cute garnish

Cardamom: This citrusy, floral and peppery herb will bring out the warmth and complexity of the drink if infused

Star Anise: Pods shaped like stars make a perfect holiday garnish, plus a slight hint of licorice.

Nutmeg: A pinch of ground nutmeg offers an earthy and well balanced warmth

  • Dairy-Free Dreams:

Oat or almond milk makes it just as creamy, with a slightly nutty twist.

  • Aromatic Enhancements:

Vanilla Bean: Split a vanilla bean and simmer with the milk for rich flavor.

Orange Zest: Fresh zest brings brightness that pairs beautifully with spices.

  • Spices for Heat:

Chili Powder or Cayenne Pepper: Start with a small pinch for a gentle kick that will warm you right up

Ginger: Freshly grated or a touch of ground ginger adds zing

  • Party Ready: Add a splash of white chocolate liqueur or vanilla vodka for a grown-up holiday treat.
