Help us Choose our Flavors: Inside the Purpl Taste Lab

If you’ve ever wondered how an LF product (specifically a beverage, this time around) comes to life from an idea scrawled on a jam packed, beat up notebook, the answer is: slowly, collaboratively, and with a lot of tiny cups and color swatches.

Right now we’re in an in between stage - our second round of sample can designs are on their way, our formulator is working to recreate our lavender lemonade as accurately as possible (bright, floral, and made with the same all-natural, organic ingredients we use fresh at the farm), and we’re in the farmhouse kitchen flavor-testing everything else ourselves.

So what's it like? It’s equal parts sensory exercise, science, and intuition. From the color on the can, to the size of the print, to the flavors themselves. Color, aroma, acidity, sweetness, finish — every fruit behaves differently once it becomes a drink, especially when lavender is involved. Some are lush and soft, some are sharp and sparkly, some blend in, and some insist on standing out.

We knew from the beginning that lavender lemonade would be our anchor. It’s the heart of what we do. Everything else needs to come together in a way that feels intentional, smooth and balanced - it can't be overpowering or underwhelming, and our fruits need to match lavender's floral, calm, herby, and uplifting nature in an intrinsic way.

Just canning the lemonade is not enough for us - we want to can the feeling of our lemonade. Sitting facing the sky with your back against a sun warmed adirondack chair, looking out into the lavender fields in bloom swaying in the breeze, pink, purple, and orange streaking the sky as the fiery July sun dips into rest. Muscles tired from working the fields, heart happy from chatting all day with people who love what we do, and taking a moment to yourself to wind down, bright citrus and calming lavender on your tongue, cool condensation dripping from your glass.

So, we sat down to figure out how to translate it, and from what we've learned here, it's that simple things take you a lot farther than you'd first expect. Color was the first thing that crossed our minds - those vibrant, calming sunsets specifically. We decided to build our flavor families from there. purple, reserved for our classic lavender lemonade of course, a warm, sunshiny peach, a vivid, juicy pink, and a luminous, peaceful indigo blue.

Below, find our concept cans, both our original as well as our 3 additional fruit flavors. Learn more about purpl's flavor profile and then click the poll below to tell us which flavors you think would suit it best. Thank you for being a part of this with us. 💜

The Original Can

Bright, floral, and unmistakably purpl — the drink that started everything.

Lavender Lemonade Fresh, sunlit lemon with a soft lavender finish. It’s crisp and lightly tart on the first sip, then opens into a gentle floral sweetness that lingers without feeling perfumey or too sugary. Made to mirror the way we prepare it at the farm — real citrus, culinary lavender, and a clean, refreshing balance that feels both nostalgic and elevated.

The Pink Can

Bright, juicy, slightly playful — something that feels like a summer picnic.

Guava

Soft, tropical, and gently floral with a creamy sweetness. Guava has a round, mellow body that makes a drink feel lush without being heavy.

Raspberry

Tart and aromatic with a delicate sweetness. It brings a vibrant pink color and a crisp, refreshing finish.

Cranberry

Sharp, clean, and lightly astringent. Cranberry leans less sweet and more sparkling-adjacent — great for people who like a drier profile.

Pomegranate Deep, ruby-toned flavor with a balance of sweet and tannic notes. It feels slightly more sophisticated and layered than the others.
